Mercy Hospital South

Boniface Foundation supports Mercy Hospital South in living out the healing ministry of Jesus by providing compassion care and exceptional service. Our grants help with the capital and program needs of the hospital, as well as the needs of the co-workers.

Boniface Foundation gifted $18 million to Mercy Hospital South’s new, state-of-the-art suites for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum needs which opened December 2021. Half of the fourth floor of the main hospital tower at Mercy Hospital South was gutted and rebuilt to create 15 new LDRP suites. Each spacious suite is larger than previous labor and delivery rooms and is designed to provide a comfortable space for a family’s entire stay from arrival to discharge.

In an effort to support the South County community with comprehensive cancer care close to home, we funded $15 million to the construction of a cancer center and related programming on the campus of Mercy Hospital South. The 70,000-square-foot, stand-alone comprehensive cancer care center is named the David M. Sindelar Cancer Center in honor of Mr. Sindelar’s dedication and service to St. Anthony’s through the years as a Board Member, Chairman of the Board and most recently prior to his passing in 2017 as its Chief Executive Officer. The cancer center opened in August 2020 and provides patients one location for diagnosis and treatment of all cancers, including enhanced technological capabilities along with access to oncology and surgical specialists. This facility also includes a new breast center.

When the Sindelar Cancer Center opened in 2020 it did so with two radiation oncology vaults. Growth exceeded expectations. In 2023, Boniface Foundation provided $2 million in funding for a 3rd vault with an Accuray Cyberknife rounding out technology offerings at Sindelar Cancer Center. This new technology benefits patients by allowing precise targeting of high dose radiation for complex tumors unable to be removed surgically; and advancing care options.

Boniface Foundation provided funding for the additional technology and equipment in Interventional Radiology serving Mercy Hospital South’s neurology program and top rated stroke program.

Comprehensive cardiovascular care has been a cornerstone service line for Mercy South for many years. Providers and programs have demonstrated high quality care that is trusted by the community. Mercy Hospital South is committed to building on this foundation by further investing in advanced care and expanded capacity, with the intent of extending this care to additional lives throughout our region, and beyond, with more complex and urgent needs.

In 2023 Boniface Foundation partnered with Mercy Hospital South to keep abreast of ever-changing technological advances in the cardiovascular procedure rooms to provide less invasive procedures, less radiation exposure and faster recovery times by investing $1 million in equipment for the Cardiac Cath Lab.
